Througout so many lessons of uir I find that the most important lesson I have learnt is the lesson on the evaluation of resources. I find that it is useful, interesting and fun to find out about how to evaluate the websites according to the criteria in lecture 7. It is also easy to understand, I think that it can be applicable to my daily life of surfing web, I am able to see how the website is brought up to us and whether is the website of a high quality or low quality. It will be useful to me when I carry out researches. With the knowledge to evaluate resources, I will be able to gauge and find out which websites are more useful in searching for information as compare to the others. As such it will saves more time in searching for information.
Lastly I find that taking UIR as a CDS has been a great choice as it equipped me with many skills and gained many insights in relation to researches. It will definitely be useful to me in the future.

For practical 8, we start with a test and I did quite well this time round. After finishing the test, each of us get back out own assignment 1 and to my surprise I did well, my effort spend on it was not wasted. After settling down, we started on collating every member's resources. Our leader, Carmen told us to send our links of the resources use to her in order to do bibliography. However, towards the end of the lesson when teacher teach us how to do citation, she foresee some problems as it is different from what we normally do. As such, we will most probably be doing it together during our meeting on this coming week. Some of my group member’s resources did not seem to be of a particular kind such as news or website because there were no authors, no particular newspaper such as ST but it looks like an article. Hence we are very confused on how to write a proper bibliography. And because it is for UIR, it is computer or internet kind of subject and so we felt very worried about not scoring high marks for our project.
Lessons Learn
At the end of practical 8, I have learned that it wasn’t easy to do citation, however we manage to get it done. After doing it, I have learned how to write a proper citation and it will be useful to me for my next assignment citation.

For practical 7, each of us will have to access our UIR-Rawkz Wiki account and submit our individual comments. We would have to contribute towards our group's summary of the research findings.For this activity, i had to log on to my account. The first step i did was to look at how other groups have written and then those from my group. After which I have got some rough idea on how to go about doing it. I have to refer to my assignment 2 and retrieve my resource links, upon referring I retrieve some information and I note it down. I added some discussion of the information I have found and give the current research they are handling. After I finish doing it, i posted it.
Lessons Learn
Through the viewing of so many other groups posting, I gained some new knowledge and I find that it is a good way for us to increase our knowledge of what is happening in the research area and other areas such as alcoholism in the youth right now and research area in flu, aids and many more.

For practical 6B, it is E-learning week, we have to complete practical 6B on our own and have to participate in OLE discussion board with the tutorial question being post in it. Upon posting, I went to do a little bit of research before answering the questions and posting it. The questions were: Briefly explain how Internet has enriched your academic life. Illustrate your answer using at least ONE Internet resource you had learnt in UIR. How it has enriched my academic life is base on self experience, but for the internet resource part. I have to refer back and do some research. For the practical, it’s about the same as practical 6A. However, for my 2nd resource, it took me shorter time to complete it as I had already experience how it should be done and how to search according to the evaluation criteria.
Lessons Learn
Through the online discussion board questions, it made me realise how important internet is to me, without internet. I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this and all the games will be gone.For evaluation of websites, I have learned how to evaluate a website and decide whether it is a good website. It would help me in deciding which website to go when I want to carry out my search in the future.

This week we had a test which i did very badly even though i had studies for it. After that we were asked to form groups of 4-5 for our assignment 2 which we did. My group consists of Zewin, Zhi hao, Elin and myself. We decide on the topic "Discuss the developments in Cancer research" as most of us prefer to do this topic. After deciding on the topic, I thought of the keywords and its variations and I wrote down the search phrase, selected Google search engine and started with the practical. The keywords we have used were Cancer, Research and Developments. The variations I used are study, growth and progresses.
We are asked to find a resources base on our topics and evaluate it base on the list of factors given. The factors are Purpose, Coverage, Authority, Accuracy, Currency, Accessibility, Presentation and Arrangements and Usability. Upon finishing we have to give an overall to which how we think of the resources.
Lessons Learn
At the end of practical 6a, I have gained the knowledge of how to evaluate a proper website and learn that website can be very unfriendly towards user. With that, I will be able to apply to the resources I used for assignments in my other modules to check if the resources are reliable.

For practical 3, we have to study the Internet resources that we have retrieved in Practical 2 and identify the purpose of any FOUR resources with the list of purposes listed for us. In order to identify the purposes, we have to refer to our lecture notes and learn how to access what is the purpose of the resources we are using.
Lessons Learn
Towards the end of practical 3, I have learned that each different resource have different purpose in the way they wants to communicate to their audience. Some resources even have mixture of a few purposes. I believe that it does helps me and others from searching for information online as most of the people who search for information has a purpose in mind.

For practical 4&5, we have to choose our topic base for assignment 1. Base on the topic chosen, we have to think of relevant keywords to be used to search for information regarding our assignment. After which, we are given 3 different search facilities and base on it, we have to search for 3 resources. The 3 search facilities given are Search engine, Meta search engine and Subject directory. Base of the 3 different search engine, I found a few websites from it and chose the best out of it. After that, we have to comments on the results of the different search facilities and explain the strength, weakness and difference of the 3 search facilities. As this requires quite a long duration to complete, we took 2 weeks to finish it. As for the comments, we have to refer to lecture notes before commenting on it. Upon finishing, we have to pick which search facilities best meet our searching needs and explain why.
Lessons Learn
At the end of practical 4&5, I have learned how to evaluate different search engine according to the different factors and functions given by them. As such I am able to know which search facilities will provides me with a more efficient way of searching for information base on the type of information I am searching for. In conclusion, I felt that search engine (Google) is the best among the 3 search facilities. It suits my needs of researching.

As for practical 2, we have to chose a topic and base on the topic search the Internet for 4 websites with a combination of different types e.g. personal, organization and subject-based. I used Google as my search facilities and the keywords being used by me to search for results are Impact, Integrated Resorts and Singapore’s tourism industry. This 3 key words yield better results. The major difference in the 3 type of websites is that Personal is written by the perspective of the writer writing it while organizations provide both factual and perspective information and lastly Subject based provide more factual information about the topic it is discussing on.
Lessons Learn
At the end of practical 2, I have learn that different websites belongs to different types and I have gain the knowledge of identifying the type the websites belongs to after referring to the lecture notes. This has enabled me to search for different types of website more efficiently.
Practical Prac 1
Practical 1 was the first practical we had for this module and I am still new to what is to be done and completed for this module. However we were being asked to start with pair activities which you and your partner must discuss on a topic and search internet for an example of the resources. We need to find 4 different examples belonging to different categories and compare between them, find out the differences and similarities. The 4 categories are Newsgroups and discussion list, electronic journals and magazine, multi-media source and WWW site.
The topic we chose on is sports and the aspect of it was soccer, after doing this we were asks to create blog which is completely new to me. But I had fun with it.
Lessons Learn
At the end of the practical, I have acquire new skills as this was the first time I create a blog and I have learn to know that there are different categories of website. With this I am able to search in a more efficient way as I can search base on the categories it belongs to. It helps me to save time. At the same time with the pair activities, it helps me get to work with another student in the class and get to know each other better.

This soccer website is the website that stays up with me whenever there is soccer matches and yet I have no time to watch, it shows the latest update to all soccer matches, and lately it even includes Singapore matches which doesn’t exist few months back. There will be odds around for people who bet on it but it’s useless to me since I don’t bet.

This soccer website is basically the website I use to check for soccer updates every time I go online, it has all the news of each of the soccer team. Any transfer of player or changing/ dismissing of coach will be made known in this website once it happens. All the fixture and results of each team will be shown once the match is over. You can even check for the league tables for each of the different league in the world, the players in the team and even their past years history records.

I am Zhihao, currently in temasek polytechnic pursuing a diploma from Financial Business Informatics(FBI). Just love my class C155 and buddies from my secondary, they are just solid. They makes my life in TP, without them i think i wont be studying that well. Not to forget C156 too!
About myself, umm.. my hobbie is sports, any kind of sports will do for me but preferred sports will be soccer,basketball,blade,jog. Others are played occasionally as there is no time so every of them.
Currently in school project is coming, starting to get stress, but thats what school is about, no choice. Just have to bear it for another 1 and a half year. Hope you guys out there can get through too. =)
